Peia – for the first time in Slovenia

This spring, we will gather for a special evening dedicated to music, connection, and the beauty of the human experience. Coming to Slovenia for the first time, Peia – singer, songwriter, and storyteller – weaves traditional songs with intimate original music through her unmistakable voice, creating space for connection with nature, our ancestors, and one another.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, April 14, 2027, at 8:00 PM at the Dominican Monastery in Ptuj, as part of the Fathoms Deep European Tour. Peia will share music from her new album alongside songs from her earlier work and the folk traditions she has spent more than a decade exploring and carrying forward.

This evening will be an invitation to pause and listen to stories of loss, love, belonging, and new beginnings. Through music that explores the transformation of pain into beauty, Peia will guide us on a journey between vulnerability and strength, darkness and reawakening.

We are preparing an evening of deep listening and connection, gathering once again as a community that believes in a more beautiful world, and creating space together for music that touches us and stays with us.

Peia’s voice carries the stories of our ancestors

Peia is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller whose work weaves folk traditions with original music. Based in the Appalachian Mountains, she draws inspiration primarily from Irish and other European folk traditions. Her unmistakable voice brings ancient songs into contemporary expression, creating space to explore memory, belonging, and our relationship with nature.

For more than a decade, she has traveled, researched, and learned songs from different cultures – from 17th-century Irish laments to Scottish work songs and Bulgarian mountain calls. With more than a decade of international touring and three studio albums, she has built a dedicated global following. She not only preserves traditional songs but also explores what they can awaken in us today and how they connect us with our ancestors and one another.

With her new album, Fathoms Deep, she turns toward a more personal and intimate form of songwriting. Through songs of loss, vulnerability, and love, she explores the transformation of pain into beauty and the power of music to accompany us through even the deepest human experiences.

Her music has already inspired millions around the world!

Peia’s signature voice, acoustic sounds, and rich folk heritage weave together into a musical world that connects the ancient with the contemporary. She breathes new life into traditional songs, while her original compositions explore nature, memory, belonging, and the depths of the human experience.

Her new album, Fathoms Deep, offers a more personal glimpse into her inner world. Written during a period of profound life changes, the songs move through loss, grief, surrender, and love, exploring the transformation of pain into beauty.

Co-produced with Trewin Howard of Phoria, the album places her voice within a spacious, cinematic sonic world. Organic instruments, subtle electronic elements, and layered textures create a backdrop that keeps the intimacy of the songs and the expressiveness of her voice at its heart.

In concert, Peia brings these songs together with the traditional melodies that have shaped her musical journey. The performance becomes an invitation to deep listening – a journey through grief and beauty, ancestry and belonging, darkness and reawakening.

Music embraced by monastic stillness

Peia’s concert will come to life at the Dominican Monastery in Ptuj, a historic space where cultural heritage, spiritual tradition, and art intertwine. Now serving as a cultural venue, the former monastery’s striking architecture creates a unique setting for an evening of music. Peia herself was captivated by the venue, whose peaceful, almost sacred atmosphere resonates beautifully with the depth of her work. The space invites us to slow down, listen, and surrender to an evening in which ancient melodies will resonate within walls that carry centuries of stories.

Workshop - Song of the Ancients with Peia

The day after the concert, we’ll have a unique opportunity to connect with Peia on a more personal level. In her Song of the Ancients workshop, she will guide us through breath, sound, and body awareness, inviting us to discover our natural voice and express ourselves more freely and authentically.

Through breathing exercises, resonance exploration, gentle vocal warm-ups, and the meditative practice of “the yoga of sound,” rooted in the Indian raga tradition, we’ll explore how to sing with greater ease, strength, and flexibility. Peia will also share her knowledge of how the voice works and how to care for it, alongside approaches to developing its range and fullness without strain.

Together, we’ll learn a song from the Celtic tradition, connecting us with the language, rituals, and way of life of this ancient culture. The workshop will be an invitation to explore the beauty of our own voices and shared song, where personal expression meets the stories of our ancestors.

Our vision is to bring to life the world we all dream of during the festival—an experience so profound that every participant carries its essence into their daily life, inspiring them to create a more loving world wherever they go.

Nastanitev

The name Guardians carries the essence of what the festival stands for. It reminds us to awaken and remember the inner Guardian within each of us, the one who protects life, the Earth, the sacred, the family, the circle of community, and the ancient ways of ceremony.

At the festival, we gather as guardians from all winds; keepers of wisdom, love, and presence, who remember that true guardianship begins within, through awareness, compassion, and conscious action.

Our logo, depicting Thoth, the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom and truth, symbolizes this timeless role of the guardian — the keeper of divine order, the bridge between heaven and earth, and the protector of the sacred.

You can find more information on their website. For reservations or additional questions, contact them at +386 41 471 234 or via email at s3tof@siol.net.

What happens in case of rain or bad weather?

The festival takes place in all weather conditions. And honestly, based on our past festivals and events, we seem to have pretty good connections with the weather spirits ;)

In case of rain, there’s no need to worry. We have several large tents and covered areas across the festival grounds where you can comfortably move your body, attend workshops, or simply relax until the sun returns.

So come prepared, but trust that the spirits are usually on our side.

What are the camping options at the festival?

The campsite opens on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 4PM with an early arrival pass (25€ per person) and closes on Monday, August 10, at 10 AM.

Standard camping is included in the festival ticket; however you need to bring your own camping equipment.

The camping area is located in a pleasant, shaded shelter of the forest. The campsite is equipped with toilets, sinks, and showers. Please note that there is no hot water in the showers.

You can also stay in your campervan or sleep in your car. See below.

Can I stay in my campervan or sleep in a car at the festival?

There is a special part of the campsite dedicated for campervans and cars.

If you are arriving at the festival with a campervan or planning to sleep in your car, you need to purchase a special ticket. There are three options available:

  • Sleeping in a car / Tent on a car (35 €)
  • Campervan parking - regular (35€)
  • Campervan parking - with electricity (75€)

In each case, your vehicle will be parked inside the fenced area of the festival campsite.

You can get a campervan ticket at our ticket shop. The number of campervan parkings with electricity is limited.

Please note that the campervan area is separated from the tent area. You may set up a shade in front of your campervan or car, but you cannot camp together with friends who have tents.

What other accommodation options are available?

If camping isn’t your thing, don’t worry – there are plenty of cozy accommodations available near the festival grounds.

You can find a full list of nearby hosts, along with their contact details for inquiries and bookings, at the following link.

What are the nearest airports to the festival venue?
  • Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) – approx. 95 km, about 1 hour 50 minutes drive
  • Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG) – approx. 103 km, about 2 hours drive
What are the transportation options from Ljubljana / Zagreb Airport to the festival venue?

If you're traveling from abroad, we recommend flying into either Zagreb or Ljubljana Airport – both are convenient and offer easy access to the festival.

You can rent a car at either airport and drive directly to the festival. Driving time from Zagreb Airport is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and from Ljubljana Airport about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

If you prefer not to rent a car, there are also other ways to reach the festival from the airports.

Ljubljana Airport → Festival venue

After landing, take a shuttle service (such as Nomago or GoOpti) to the center of Ljubljana. You can also take a taxi.

From the Ljubljana main bus station, take a bus to Fara-Vas – check the schedule and tickets via Nomago, and look for the route: Ljubljana AP → Fara-Vas.

On Thursday (Aug 7) and Friday (Aug 8) there are three daily departures: 08:15 → 11:00, 12:15 → 14:45, and 14:15 → 16:20. There are no bus departures on Saturday or Sunday for this route.

On Monday (Aug 10), return options to Ljubljana include four departures: 06:04 → 08:44, 08:34 → 10:44, 13:34 → 15:44, and 16:04 → 18:44.

From Fara-Vas bus station, the festival grounds are just a few minutes’ walk away.

Zagreb Airport → Festival venue

There are no direct public transport connections from Zagreb Airport to the festival.
However, if there is enough demand, we will organize a shuttle directly from the airport to the venue.

If you need a ride, contact us at info@guardiansfestival.com.

We also have a WhatsApp group where participants can offer or request rides. You’ll find the link below on this page.

Where can I find/offer transportation?

If you're looking for a ride or have space in your car, we invite you to join our WhatsApp group for ride sharing. It’s a great way to connect with other participants and share the journey to the festival.

Ride sharing is not only practical – it’s also eco-friendly. Together, we reduce our carbon footprint and create meaningful connections even before the festival begins!

Join our WhatsApp group here. Later on, there will also be a ride-sharing table available where you can offer or look for a ride.
